The Provincial Government has framed a Performance Evaluation System (PES) for teachers in public sector educational institutions and introduced compulsory Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR). Under this system; teachers shall be assessed on their academic performance and professional development through the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR). The system shall apply to all teachers in public sector educational institutions who have not been hired through the Teachers Service Commission – an independent body empowered for the recruitment of teachers.

The performance, experience, and contribution of each teacher shall be reviewed by their respective administration before progressing to next year. The concerned authorities shall consider the following indicators for the appraisal of teachers:

  • 1. Academic Performance
  • 2. Professional Development
  • 3. Teaching Experience
  • 4. Student’s Feedback/Performance Assessment
  • 5. Administrative Ability/Initiative/Innovativeness/Service Orientation/Team Work and extracurricular activities etc.

The annual professional performance review (APPR) shall be conducted on the following criteria.

The number of marks allocated to the given area would depend on the performance of the headteacher. By way of example, a Head Teacher having 10 years of experience may be awarded a maximum of 50% marks in case if their tenure is less than 3 months, whereas, for someone who has worked for 9 years, this could be around 45% marks.

The details of the criteria for the performance evaluation system can be seen here.

After taking into consideration all available comments/ comments of headteachers and the concerned authority, the principal will prepare a summary based on which an overall assessment will be made about their contribution to the institution.
